Merry Сhristmas in the Netherlands
Christmas Eve and Hogmanay are coming and, as usual, there is a splendid fir tree from the German Ardennes in the center of Amsterdam — Dam Square. This Christmas tree is 22 meters in height, sparkling and shining in the light of 4 km of garlands.
The 7th of December has become an open-day and this marvelous tree was opened up in front of townspeople and tourists of the Netherlands. During the ceremony people could hear noel by choir of children from the Amsterdam music school.
The favorite place for people to come has become Dam Square, where the tree stands, with flood of lights on it. Moreover, if you haven’t bought presents yet or if you want to snatch a mouthful and take a cup of tea, you could do this in a mart de Bijenkorf thereabout. A building of de Bijenkorf is also a piece of art, which is a national historic landmark, constructed at 1870.
During all holidays you could hear a peal and singing.
You could spend your Christmas holidays in Amsterdam with amusement:
- Go for shopping in marts and fair on commercial streets, such as Haarlemmerstraat in Jordaan, Spiegelkwartier and Negen Straatjes.
- Visit restaurants, bars and cafeterias (altogether more than 1500 in Amsterdam).
- Dance a whole night in clubs with celebrities, for example Jimmy Woo’s or Escape (book a table beforehand!)
On top of everything else you can spend your time by going to skating-rink, circus, cabaret, amusement parks etc.
